REAL provides a range of research, evaluation, strategic foresight, and other consulting services for NGOs, relief/development agencies, government agencies, think tanks, universities/colleges, and other entities needing fresh perspectives, insight, and foresight on political, social, cultural, and economic realities in sub-Saharan Africa and around the world.

ABOUT

REAL was conceptualized in 2015 and officially launched by Dr. Kenly Fenio and Dr. Steven Lichty in 2018. Together we have over 40 years’ experience working across Africa and other regions of the world. Our ability to deliver multi-method, holistic solutions arises from our extensive professional background in an array of sectors, but also our academic background and familiarity with culturally relevant ethnographic tools and both quantitative and qualitative software (NVivo, NodeXL, Stata, SPSS, Kumu, SurveyCTO, etc.). We work closely as a team, but also maintain an extensive network of scholars and technical specialists across Africa and beyond.

REAL’s mission is to bridge local knowledge, academic expertise, and NGO/private sector needs to develop assessments, studies, and evaluations that get to the heart of information sharing and understanding (both conceptually and practically) in developing socio-economic contexts. We specialise in volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environments where linear models of change are often stymied. By building and leveraging critical solidarity and pulling together different viewpoints, REAL is strategically placed to deliver research, evaluation, analysis, and synthesis based on both emic and etic perspectives to a variety of clients.
